I am Karoline Friederike Louise Maximiliane von Günderrode and lived from 1780 to 1806.

Karoline von Günderrode was an ambitious young woman of the Romantic period who ended her life here on the Rhine at the age of only 26. She shares with us her torn soul, her unhappy love to a married man and the difficulties of being socially accepted as a creative woman at that time.

In the film "Heimat 3" the "Günderodehaus" built on the hill, was the place of longing and the destination of a great love, who - like Karoline - no longer tolerated compromises and restrictions. The house named after her reminds us today of Karoline's romantic fate.
