Virtual Rhine Journey

Have you ever wanted to travel the beautiful Middle Rhine as captain?

Now you have the opportunity: At the large historical steering wheel you navigate the DS Rheingold from Bingen to Koblenz through shallows passing by the most important sights. You will land in selected ports and can watch films on interesting topics. And the journey continues already: Full speed ahead!

Bingen
The Rhine journey starts in Bingen, at the gateway to the World Heritage Site Upper Middle Rhine Valley. With the thrust lever in your hand, you navigate to the first landing zone and learn everything about the valley and the upcoming sights in a short film.

Oberwesel
After you have sailed around the first islands and reefs, you will land in Oberwesel. Here in a TV report of 1962 you can see how icebreakers had to make the Rhine navigable because the river was frozen over. Many people ventured onto the ice on foot or with sledges. At that time a spectacle for young and old - unbelievable today!

St. Goar
After you have safely sailed around the Loreley, you will land in St. Goar. Thousands of salmons were caught here in the past. Today you can see in historical film footage from 1912 how people tried to catch salmons over hundred years ago - but also to breed them, thus ensuring the preservation of the species in the Rhine.

Kamp-Bornhofen
Huge wooden rafts brought coveted wood from the Black Forest to the Netherlands. Kamp-Bornhofen was a traditional rafting town for a long time, home to people who were experts in building and operating the giant rafts. When you land here, you can learn all about the history of the giant rafts on the Rhine in a short slide show.

Koblenz
Arriving at the destination of our trip, we land in Koblenz and can watch a film about the inland waterway captain Norbert Schmitt, who lived and worked on the Rhine for 40 years. The passionate model builder has recreated many important ships to scale and they show us how skippers used to work and live and which ships were on the Rhine for which purpose.

We wish you a good journey and exciting discoveries!
